TV Star?

Feb 28, 2006 Author: Larissa | Filed under: Uncategorized

I won’t lie, I really want to be on the Real World. I’ve wanted to for the past couple of years, but just have never gotten around to making a tape.

I’m sure the chances of getting on are slim…but you never know, I have good background stories I can play up to look more diverse. I may be just social and just neurotic enough to make it though. Haha.

My only issue with the whole idea is that I want to lose weight before I audition, and well, that hasn’t happened yet. I also considered the fact that I tend to have a big mouth, and I’m afraid going on TV like that would not only expose all of MY secrets, but all of my FRIEND’S secrets as well…and that wouldn’t be cool. I just think in relating to the roommates and telling stories, that other people’s business would get out. Not good. I just don’t think I could handle everyone knowing all my business. Having a blog is enough!

The age limit for The Real World is 24, so that means I have about one more year to get it together if I want to audition. I missed the most recent casting call deadline (it was this month), so I would have to try this year.

I know I’ll probably never get around to it, it’s just something fun I’ve thought about (obviously) and think would be a cool experience. I just don’t know if I’m really that big of an attention whore though.

I’ve had a lot of cool experiences and met a wide variety of people in my life…is this something else I really need to add to the list?

Plus you have to wonder, how much of it is staged, and how much is real.

Politics As Usual

Feb 27, 2006 Author: Larissa | Filed under: Uncategorized

Maybe I’ve lived in D.C. too long, but I’m starting to not like politics.

I used to love it, rather I loved the bad side of politics. I like the old school idea, the behind closed doors wheeling and dealing (not quite the Abramoff way though), the quid pro quo partnerships. I like the dirty behind the scenes stuff that gives politics a bad rap. I think the networking and sociology of it all is very interesting.

But, the more I think about it, the more I realize that maybe it’s all the same. The world will keep on turning whether the Republicans have control of Congress and/or the White House, or the Democrats. People will still live in poverty, the world will still be at war, and people will still not agree. Perhaps I’m being a pessimist; but bad things are going to happen no matter who is in control.

Granted, I still won’t stray from my Democratic ways and say that the Bush administration has done much good in the past six years, but I will say that with many of the situations that have come up, things may have been handled quite differently under Democratic rule.

Personally, I find myself so irritated at the Bush administration that I just don’t like to follow politics anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I support our country, I’m patriotic, and I love America…but I do think that some of our fearless leaders have fucked some things up. It’s all been a bad situation made worse by some bad judgement. Of course, in all fairness, there is no way to know what a Democrat would have done. And, for the record, although I voted for and supported Kerry – I didn’t think he was that great of a candidate either.

However, I also believe that the trend is that most of America is leaning towards the more moderate side. Nobody wants to be labeled a “dirty liberal” any more than they want to be labeled a “crazy conservative” (although I do know a few who are proud to be named as such).

I guess I am biased living in an area where politics rules. I am sure that if I lived anywhere else in the country, politics would just be a side story. It’s sad to think that most people in the country don’t know a thing about how our political system is set and how it works. And, most don’t care. We can’t even get a good majority of the population to vote!

The mid-term elections will be interesting, as will the gearing up for 2008. I have definitely kept my eyes and ears open for the early rumblings of 2008. I guess I can’t say that I’ve totally lost my passion for politics, I’ve just learned to take it all with a grain of salt.

Sweet!

I had a most excellent weekend!

I took the day off Friday because my best friend/life partner was in town. I got my haircut (god, I needed it bad) and we went to Ruth Chris’ for dinner. It was a belated birthday dinner for her and her dad. Let’s just say I didn’t start my food diary this weekend!

On Saturday we went to the Georgetown vs. Syracuse game at the MCI Center. We thought we had player guest tickets from her friends on the Syracuse basketball team, but unfortunately those fell through. An hour before the game we found out that they were now limiting the tickets to family members only. Lucky for us, her dad has many connections, and within minutes we had secured seats on the club level. It actually worked out well in the long run, because the families of the players were placed on club level (rather than behind the bench) too, so it really was no different. And, we also got to watch and dine at the Acela Club (where the picture was taken), which was decent.

After the game we took the metro back to her house (which, by the way, I haven’t been on the metro in about a year and a half) and came upon an unfortunate situation. Having not found a ride back to her house, we were forced to walk back from the metro. The funniest part was that none of us knew how to ride the Metrobus or the DASH bus. Quite tragic. Although it was only a little over a mile, it was also up a big hill. At least the weather was nice! It was so nice in fact, that I took my car to get washed and waxed and all prettied up!

Saturday night roomie and I went to a party at one of my co-worker’s houses. It was a themed party thrown by five guys (aka quite the fratastic sausage fest) but it was actually pretty decent. It was an “around the world” theme, and each roommate had a different country and concocted a beverage to go with that. They even dressed and decorated for it. Kind of cute. There were a lot of cute guys there, but it was kind of hard to meet people. House parties are awful for that, because it’s hard to talk to people unless you have an “in” – and even then it’s kind of hard. This one was especially odd because I only knew three people there, whereas most of the time when you go to a house party, you know most of the attendees. Afterwards, we continued the college flashback experience and stopped at 7-11 so I could get a slurpee. I know, I’m really cool.

Today my roomie and I went to brunch at my best friend’s country club and then we came home and went to the gym. I had a very thrilling workout experience. Hah. Maybe in a couple months I’ll finally start to see some results! I don’t mind going to the gym, I like it, and it’s not that bad – it’s just the getting there that is the hard part. The mental preparation is the kicker there.

All in all, a fun weekend was had!

Next weekend: hitting the DC bars once again. Oh boy!

Holy Crap! Revisited

Feb 23, 2006 Author: Larissa | Filed under: Uncategorized

Tonight I met up with a co-worker’s husband who is a personal trainer. I wanted him to give me some pointers on my running skills (or lackthereof), mainly why I run/walk like a duck and can it be fixed.

Well, my first problem is that I don’t run with my thighs/quads, I run completely with my lower legs. No wonder it kills my shins and calves. Second to that, I don’t lift my knees high enough therefore my strides are very short.

Apparently I also need to stretch more. Especially my calves.

And I need to do the stairmaster.

All to help with that lifting knees higher and taking longer strides.

Let’s just say that tomorrow I will probably be in serious pain.

But damn, it felt good. I wish I had a trainer all the time! I definitely pushed myself harder probably because I didn’t want to look like a total idiot and/or failure in front of him.

Good news is he says my running form is actually decent (except for the lower leg thing), and that I’m in fairly good cardiovascular health. I’m not necessarily unhealthy.

Bad news is he said I should start a food diary. Yikes.

Well, I know I will sleep well tonight! My legs HURT and I’m beat.
