A formerly anon blogger, trying to make it honest
There are a ton of controversial relationship topics I want to post about – the previous one was just the beginning…but for now, you get a disclaimer for the rest of the week:
I’m going on vacation…
…and I won’t have internet access.
Now, for most people that’s fine – it’s good to get away. But, for someone like me who checks their email (and everything else on the internet) practically on the hour or more…that’s not so good.
I’m heading to New Mexico Thursday through Monday to meet my parents at their condo. They bought it a year or so ago and as of now plan to retire there. They go out there once or twice a year for anywhere from a week to a month, so this time I thought I would join them.
However, in booking my flight, I forgot the key details of:
1. No real bed for me. (I get an air mattress because they haven’t furnished the second room yet.)
2. No TV. No cable. (Not even a TV to watch DVDs on or anything.)
3. No internet. (I’m sure I will find myself at an internet cafe.)
4. No phone line. (Thank God for cell phones.)
5. No pool. (Can’t even work on my tan!)
So, what kind of vacation is that? Well, I guess it will be one where I will be almost cut off from everything I would usually have on vacation – and catch up on the pile of books I’ve been meaning to read.
I’m also looking forward to lots of good (and free – yay parents!) food and some cool museums and sightseeing. Santa Fe and Taos are nice artsy type towns, so there should be some cool stuff there. However, my funds are at a minimum, so it may be just a lot of window shopping. It’s supposed to be kind of rainy – but temperatures are projected in the 70′s, with low’s in the 50s…I’ll take it. That’s gonna feel NICE after this oppressive heat and humidity. Last year’s week in Sun Valley was perfect weather, so this will be another good midwest, high altitude escape.
And hey, if I see Julia Roberts there…I’ll make sure to take a picture to post.
I hope everyone has fun at the HH on Friday – drink one for me loves!

It is GORGEOUS out in the desert, though, and NM (from what I remember) has a lot of really nice spas… with cheapie non-Northeast prices! The Southwest is a great place to be a total hedonist, and best of all, you can prob do it on your parents’ dime. Good luck out there, cuz you’re not gonna want to come back to this swamp!
Bon Voyage!
I agree with TMCL, the desert is awesome. After spending a lot of time between Vegas, southern Arizona and southwest Texas I can see why those areas of the country are finally blooming. Have a great time out there. I would offer up suggestions of places to go but my NM experience is limited to Las Cruces (I think that is in NM). It was just a stop on my way to Cali.
Santa Fe and Taos are awesome! I went there with my Mom for a week a few years back. Bring your camera and take lots of pictures. Take a walking tour of Santa Fe, it’s pretty cheap and you can see a lot. There are great galleries and the Native American artists who sell their crafts in front of the Governor’s Palace (?) are definitely worth a visit. Taos Pueblo is also a must-see, and if I remember right it’s the oldest continuously-occupied settlement in the US. It’s gorgeous. Have a great time!!!!
Sunrise in the desert…serene.
Hmm you do know what that means right? Lots of shopping!!!!
sounds fabulous!
its good to be disconnected sometimes.
enjoy the great weather out there. do you have room in your suitcase?
