BTW Thanks Todd you are too kind! Beauty is in some ways totally over-priced and yes Valley Girl is right as well. We all notice that hot guy when he walks in, either because he is hot looking or because you can feel that "I am so hot and you want me kind of attitude" that hits you first.
And no guy asks about your mind before he has already checked you out ;)

Beauty no matter how you look at it will be a state of mind.
I have seen down dead beautiful women I wouldn't want
to be around cause they are all empty inside and I have
seen women that kind of mousy like and men can't stay
away from.
It will always be about who you are on the inside.
BUT a little makeup and a great pair of looking nails
never hurt either right ladies?

Great post! Very thought-provoking!!!

My beauty costs per year are very similar to yours (except for mani-pedis; we've recently had a fungus scare here in the Valley, so shelling out for the posh salons are a necessity).

To answer the question posed in your post, Yes. Sadly, it is worth it. We all want to believe inner beauty is what counts, but let's face it: the first thing you notice when you walk into a bar is not a man's intellect, but how hot he looks.

Plus, if it gives you a boost, that's even better. I notice I feel much more confident when my nails are done even if it is an insignificant detail.

Johanna and other pedi gals - There is a place across from Union Station (I know you're downtown, not on Capitol Hill, but...) I get a monthly French pedicure that is terrific for $33. I think it's called something easy like Capitol Nails.

And I pay $39 a month to go to all the Bally's in the region - it's less if you just want to choose the one closest.

Johanna & Not Carrie - yeah, I think I spend a lot more on makeup than that...but I was trying to estimate conservatively, since I was already aghast at how big the number was already...I mean, a couple purchases at Sephora will easily push you to that limit.

Yeah, I think I spend much more on makeup, but I don't do mani/pedis so I guess it works out.
