Round It Up Baby

Oct 22, 2006 Author: Larissa | Filed under: Food, Friends, Movies, Randomness, Weekend

This weekend was pretty good, I spent some good time with good people. On Friday I met my bff at one of my favorite Chinese restaurants, Peking Gourmet. After dinner I headed over to Carpool to see my friend’s little sister’s band play. They are pretty good, I’ve seen them before - they have a fun setlist and great energy. I ended the night with a little unexpected smoke and SHUB action. All in all, a pretty damn good Friday night!

Saturday I went to see The Departed with my friend N, which was always a good time. The movie made me want to hit up Boston for some hot Irish cops, corrupted or not! N, you were looking fabulous too my friend! Especially in your I Love Black People shirt hahaha. I then headed to Tysons to meet some friends for dinner at CPK and pick up a few things, including a VERY espensive perfume (um yeah, I won’t be eating until next week as I can now not afford food) and exchanging/buying a couple shirts at Nordstrom and Express (got some cute and cheap stuff there!). I kind of feel bad stealing someone else’s signature scent (I got the name from a friend’s girlfriend)…but it smells amazing - and it’s not like I see her/them very often. If you want to know what it is ask, but I don’t want to share lest others know the secret to my sexy new scent. It’s also great because the fragrance lingers forever and it smells as expensive and luxurious as it is. Clearly I’m obsessed with it.

Sunday I met the Ad-Man for coffee (or in my case, a tasty chai latte) in Arlington. He’s helping me out with some career advice and networking, and it was definitely good to meet him. Thanks for the ego and confidence booster Geoff! The rest of the day was spent cleaning up and laying around the house. My roomie made us a yummy dinner and we got pumpkins to carve this week!

I can’t believe it’s almost November. And I also have NO money for Christmas presents. I guess that is time that I can be happy my family is so small. I really only have to get gifts for my parents and a few friends. But, I’m an overly giving person, and I always end up spending way too much on entirely too many people. I can’t help it…I’m the ultimate consumer and I LOVE buying presents!

Anyway, fun times, good people, and now…back to work. Sigh.

Exhausting Weekend

I would definitely not be surprised if I got sick after this weekend. Then again, I always get sick around my birthday, but anyway.

On Friday I headed to Papermoon in Georgetown for fashion show number two with my friends (number 5 and number 12 in the first link). I started with dinner with my fave girls K and M, and two of my guy friends from school came up too. Sadly I didn’t get many pictures because I’m retarded and forgot to charge my camera batteries.

My other friend M also in a hot red dress

The show was a success and a lot of fun, especially since we were VIP and had great seats. Speaking of which, an awful thing happened before the show. We were all sitting on the runway right at the
end by the photographers, and before the show I went to the bathroom. So I come back and there were velvet ropes and everything - it was not even really up so it was maybe two inches off the ground. Well, I went to step over it, and of course my back foot gets caught. But no, I didn’t just trip/stumble, I fell to my knees with a crash - and I took down the entire velvet rope thing - the silver things it was hooked on…and a chair…it all came crashing down with me. Everyone was staring at me, my friends were like oh my god…I went to sit by my friend P and buried my face in his shoulder and he was like shit don’t claim me! It was quite amusing in the end, but I was mortified.

My two friends from school…they were happy I hooked them up to meet models hah

On Saturday I spent the day in Alexandria with my godniece, who just turned 5. We went clothes shopping (with her mom) and I got a copy of Breakfast at Tiffany’s. I had intended to spend the night in, since I was tired from the night before, but at the last minute I decided to go to Chloe with a friend for a party. She was pretty dead too from the show the night before, but we managed to make it out again! I heard that Chloe had gone a little downhill in the past few months, but the place seemed to be kickin’ as usual. However, there were about three bachelorette parties there, and you know when that happens a place is going down a la Coyote Ugly. But, the music and crowd was still pretty hot. I think the funniest part of the night was the hot asian girl who tried to molest me. We were dancing (you know how girls dance together) in a group, and she decided that I was awesome, and kept saying “OMG I love you, can I claim you?” and kinda trying to touch my chest. It was uh, a little disconcerting even for a drunken affair haha. But hey, it was kinda hot too. She was the most attractive person to hit on me all night hahaha. After a drink and a shot, I was sorta drunk (hey, I’m a lightweight) and I actually cut out pretty early, but ended up staying up late anyway once I got home. Oooops.

My friend M and I, round 2!

Sunday I headed to Arlington for lunch at my roommate’s house for her brother’s birthday…and then watched a bit of the Dallas game before heading home to try and catch some more sleep!

And now…my birthday week begins!

Concert Whoo!

Sep 28, 2006 Author: Larissa | Filed under: Concerts, Friends, Music

So last night I attended the Yellowcard and Anberlin concert at the 9:30 Club. It was a good concert, but the crowd certainly made it even more entertaining. In looking around the crowd I thought, how many of these people are breaking curfew? Yes, I did feel really old. The average age there I would say was 20. I bought a beer just to prove I was old enough. Also unfortunate, were the parents that were forced to attend with their young high school kids. I felt so bad for them, they must have been miserable. Speaking of being a parent, on the way out we hit traffic on 66, and I almost came thisclose to hitting the car in front of me. Apparently by default I “mom-armed” my friend. It was quite funny. I wonder if the guy knew how close he was to being rear-ended? Hmm…

Of course, there was a lot of mosh pitting and crowd surfing going on. What is it about rock concerts that perpetuate that? I joked with my friend that only white kids would do that (the aimless jumping up and down and running into each other) and she was like “hey, we can’t dance, it’s what we do.” Hahaha. The appeal of crowd surfing is lost to me as well. “Yeah man, let’s rock out and count on strangers to hold me up so I don’t fall, all the while kicking other people in the face and possibly falling and busting my head open! AWESOME! What a rush!” Yeah, false. I just tried to stay away from that mess.

The highlight of the concert was definitely “Only One” and “Empty Apartment” followed by the last song “Ocean Avenue.” They prefaced “Only One” by saying that you should “look for the girl you want to take home tonight and tell her that you wrote this song for her” - which was hilarious.

All in all a fun way to spend a Wednesday night.

On Love

Sep 25, 2006 Author: Larissa | Filed under: DC, Friends, Nightlife

Saturday night I headed out to Love (formerly Dream) for the VIP opening of Heaven, which was basically the rooftop/4th floor that has been redone with a dome and some cool VIP sections.

(Playing with the sepia tones on my computer picture editor)

My friend was DJing there so he hooked me up with free passes and such, so that was cool. He played some hot tracks and I had a great time dancing. It was definitely nice on the top floor, it was not overcrowded and since most of the people there were friends with connections, it was a good scene (read: attractive and not shady/scary). There were even girls dancing on tabletops in lingerie…can’t beat that right? Hah.

I even ran into one of my pledge sisters, who I had not seen in probably 3 years. We were really good friends the first couple years of college, but kind of lost touch later on. It was crazy to see her there!

A couple pics from back in the day

A picture of us from this weekend
–Wow I look different! And not in a good way :(

Now, I haven’t been to Love in a long time, probably not since summer 2004. I used to go there a lot in college, and when I was there Saturday I felt like everyone there was really young. I guess it was just my memories coming back. It was a fun place to go, but I wouldn’t go there all the time…mostly because it’s so far out there and there is nothing around it - if you go there for the night you’re stuck there. Plus, I think most of my friends would have been freaked out about having to go through metal detectors and getting the pat down for weapons. Love is cool if you’re in the mood for a big club atmosphere (as one friend put it, it’s like an amusement park). If you haven’t been there lately, check it out…it’s all new management and promoters, so it’s a little different than before.
