Everybody Needs Somebody Sometimes

Jun 14, 2006 Author: Larissa | Filed under: Uncategorized

Oh, this is kind of funny, admit it…
(In a politically incorrect kind of way)

A $200 bottle of champagne from Hooters and $300 worth of “Girls Gone Wild” videos were among items bought with debit cards handed out by FEMA to help hurricane victims, auditors probing $1 billion in potential waste and fraud have found.

Well, nobody said that they had to spend the money on food, clothing, and shelter.

People will always take advantage of the system…it’s human nature to be greedy and make bad decisions in life.

But…wow.

And for the record, champagne from HOOTERS?!?

Do you think it was Cristal? Haha.

Cleansing

Jun 12, 2006 Author: Larissa | Filed under: Uncategorized

So Saturday night in an attempt to get it together before I move, I went through the 6 cardboard boxes that have been sitting in my room since I moved here…that have been packed for the past 2-4 years. Obviously nothing I really needed, since I hadn’t touched most of it in at least 2 years. I threw a lot away (4 30-gallon trash bags full), and kept enough to fit into 2 under bed storage bins.

It was good to finally sort through the stuff. It’s kind of the last I have from my middle school – college years. I think pretty much everything (with maybe the exception of some early childhood things) I have from my past is in my possesion, not at my parents’ house anymore. So this is basically it. I even have all of my adoption papers and that kind of stuff too.

There are still some things I have that I don’t quite know what to do with. I have a cube full of letters and a couple stuffed animals and pictures from THE ex-boyfriend. I really have no reason to keep it, as I hopefully will never have any contact with him again, nor do I wish to. But I feel like I should keep some of that stuff – just to say hey, there were some good things to come out of that mess. To have something to show my daughter about my past. Even if it wasn’t a good past. Sure I have scrapbooks and such for that too, but…I don’t know. I feel like it’s wrong to just throw things like that away. So, I still have it all. For…nothing.

In my unpacking of boxes, I found a box of letters from my freshman year in college, including notes from high school friends (that I’m not friends with anymore) and other ex-boyfriends. I found a book from 9th grade, before I switched high schools…filled with notes from friends and silly little things. It was actually kind of amusing. One guy wrote me 4 pages! I found boxes of trinkets and filled two shoeboxes with old pictures (that didn’t make the scrapbooks) of the past 6 years.

I pulled out all of those things to keep, and some stuffed animals that are special to me, and other keepsakes (found my sorority badge!). And the rest…I finally threw out. The papers and desk stuff and Mardi Gras beads and picture frames and the crap that was my life. I can’t even remember what all it was. But it’s all gone.

I told my mom that I FINALLY went through all that shit, and she was like, “well, that’s good. You weren’t ready to go through all of that before, but now maybe you are.” I’m not sure if she meant not ready because I was lazy, or not ready because I couldn’t part with it. Maybe a little bit of both.

It felt good to be rid of all the junk. Not just because it makes packing for the move seem a little less scary, but because it means I don’t have to think about it anymore, and don’t have to deal with it.

And maybe that’s what I needed, to just take it all in…and let it all out…

More Than an Eyeful

Jun 10, 2006 Author: Larissa | Filed under: Uncategorized

So last night the Asian Mistress dusted off her happy hour shoes and made an appearance at Eyebar – having not appeared at a HH since the one I hosted there in December. Bad blogger I am!

It was good to see some old (and new!) faces…some who I have seen recently, others that I have not.

It was great to see so many people out – it’s always a good time with Kathryn!

I had one hazel eye martini (grey goose, butterscotch schnapps, and apple pucker) which was quite tasty, however it made me quite drunk. I’m sorry if I wasn’t very friendly. Then I left early and passed out before midnight. I rock.

But let’s cut to the chase, here are a couple dirrrty pics!

VK gets some special love:

VP struts her stuff.

On a final note, I’m sorry if I have been or will be MIA – I’ve been super busy at work and with moving next weekend everything is just a little crazy!!!

Update in Brief

Jun 5, 2006 Author: Larissa | Filed under: Uncategorized

- Just got back from a weekend trip to Indiana (Bloomington to be exact) to visit some friends. Good times and pretty relaxing.

- Tanning by the pool in Indiana is just not the same as tanning in Florida, or even in DC. The sun isn’t as hot or something. Bummer.

- I went to see The Break Up. It was a good movie. Very relatable. Anyone who has ever been in a relationship (especially a long term one) will understand completely both sides. Plus I love Vince Vaughn. And Jon Favreau.

- I saw an ad for this movie called Step Up. I must see it. I love movies about dancing. Center Stage, Save the Last Dance, Honey, You Got Served. Ah, this is just another in the long line…but this time hottie Channing Tatum will be starring. I might die.

- I figured out why people from the midwest are fat. It’s because they have lots of good food, and people don’t go to the gym at all. Rather, they’re not as obsessed as us East (and West) coasters are.

- I ate at White Castle for the first time. I had to after seeing Harold & Kumar go to White Castle. I did only eat one though. But, it was quite a tasty morsel of carloric goodness. My friend argued it may be better than Five Guys, but I don’t know…

- On another food note, O’Charley’s how I have missed you…working there for two years still doesn’t deter me. Why don’t we have one in NOVA/DC? And for that matter, why the hell do they play Sonic commercials here and the closest one is 2 hours away?

- How awful it must be to know you’re the parents of the kid that’s screaming on the plane, and knowing everyone around you is silently wishing your kid would shut the fuck up. I fully plan on slightly medicating my children if necessary.

- I stepped on a shard of glass on Saturday night. I heard it crunch as it went into my foot. That wasn’t cool. Foot injuries in general aren’t cool because they bleed a lot and it’s hard to make it stop. (Sorry that was kind of gross)

- On June 1, it was the 1 year anniversary of me blogging (who remembers my humble beginning?). On July 1 it will be City Sparkle’s 1 year celebration! Oh Boy!!!!

Seriously Stupid

May 31, 2006 Author: Larissa | Filed under: Uncategorized

I just watched the
new show The Hills on MTV…and while I like Lauren (LC) from Laguna Beach and all…her friend Heidi has got to go.

I almost couldn’t watch because it’s painful to watch someone so clueless. Yet, it’s entertaining. In a way it reminded me a little of Jessica Simpson’s sidekick (and manager?) Ka-Cee or whatever the fuck her name is. As far as the sidekick to the star factor.

This girl (Heidi) is as dumb as it gets.

1. In an interview, she tells the woman that she “never went to class” in high school, didn’t learn anything, and basically just wanted to party and lead the “fun party girl” lifestyle of a PR/event planner. UM BITCH what is your problem? Then the woman (thank God) tells her that you have to work in PR for years before you can get to do the “fun” things, and asks Heidi if she would be willing to work on the floor (fashion retail). Heidi declines saying she doesn’t think she can do THAT. I wanted to punch her. Really. I’m sure if the interviewer wasn’t on TV she would have dismissed her real quick.

2. Heidi then gets her best bud Lauren in trouble by making her sneak a group into a Teen Vogue party. Now Lauren is a fucking idiot for letting them in in the first place, but she’s young so I give her a pass. Kind of. But, this bitch Heidi man…they do everything wrong. They sit in the VIP section “haha we’re so cool and funny!!!” and then she proceeds to fight and cry with her boyfriend at the entrance to the party. What a fucking idiot.

And as for the rest of the cast…the Vogue editor(?) Blaine is kind of cute, and the “friendly neighbor” Audrina is really hot. Heidi’s boyfriend and friends are cute, but probably just as dumb as she is. And, we all know that MTV hooked LC up with this internship, also evidenced by the fact that the showed a big long speech about how they don’t usually hire 19 year olds.

Lord, I don’t know if I can deal with a whole season of Heidi. I know, why watch such garbage…?

Because it’s so bad, it’s good.

*This post is dedicated to MKD - lots of love…. :)
